Maharani's Science College for Women, Bangalore stands as a testimony to his glorious vision of providing science education exclusively to girls. The institution was started due to the benevolent initiative of the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore, His Highness Sri NalvadiKrishnarajaWodeyar. The college with its aesthetically designed heritage building is ensconced amidst a sprawling campus of over11. 4 acres and is located in close proximity to VidhanaSoudha—the seat of power in the state. The college has earned recognition from various statutory bodies. The institution has obtained 2(f) and 12 (b) tag of the UGC and has been accredited by NAAC with a CGPS score of 2.78.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University and follows the semester program. Spanning the spotlight from fundamentals to applied aspects of major science subjects, the college offers B.Sc courses in fifteen combinations. In addition, the college also has PG courses in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Application. Several of these subjects have interdisciplinary approach. Improving the employability skill set of students, the college offers Add-on courses in medicinal plants.

The college has ample infrastructure in terms of sufficient number of well furnished classrooms, good laboratories with modern equipments and computer facility in almost every department. The conference hall with audio visual facility serves as the venue to host academic and extracurricular programmes. A separate library building with over 65000 books, 05 reputed journals and 35 magazines with reprographic and internet facility is a favourite haunt of bibliophiles. The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility, first of its kind in a Government college with two servers, 10 computers, Network Printer, scanner and copier with internet, supports research activities to a great extent. To promote excellence in sports the college has constructed a cement basketball court, a gymnasium and provided facilities for athletics, throw ball, volley ball etc. The college also has a separate Hostel building which can accommodate 180 students. A tectonic expansion through a new three storey annex building forms the recent infrastructural acquisition of the college. It houses the PG departments. In addition an indoor stadium is nearing completion, There are 120 permanent highly qualified teachers on the rolls of the college. There are 36% Ph. D holders and 25% M.Phil degree holders among the teaching fraternity. The research tenor of the college is being adequately strengthened with most of the teachers being involved in research activities either working for their doctoral degree or for major/ minor research projects. Research culture is ignited among students through project work. The quality of teaching - learning process is in the upward spiral with the incorporation of innovative pedagogical practices. The college offers a remedial coaching program for students from marginalized sections. The academic performance curve has shown significant ascent during the last five years.

Continuous progress in teaching- learning being the genuine concern of the college, the increasing number of faculty organizing events, participating and presenting papers at National and International conferences is emblematic of the mood in the college. Extension activities like NCC and NSS instil discipline and widen human sympathies among students. To increase the range and richness of educational experience various fore and clubs have been created. The placement cell brings recruiters, soft skill trainers and motivational speakers in contact with students to enhance employability. Weekly assembly increases personal effectiveness of students and is a very special addition to the programmes conducted. The total student strength of the college is 1100. The students come from across the prosperity spectrum ranging from underprivileged to wealthy sections. However the greater flux is from the former. To inculcate passion for perfection in academics, the college provides scholarships and endowment prizes. The Government's initiative to waive off tuition fee and lab fee encourages students of economically constrained background to pursue higher education. To make self-assessment both introspective and objective the college obtains feedback from students about academics, extracurricular activities and campus experience through well designed feedback forms. An active counselling centre with 18 trained counsellors addresses the academic and emotional issues of students. The mentor system enhances the feel good factor for the students and closely knits the students with the college. The Alumni Association links the old students with their alma mater.
