Annasaheb Magar College, Pune

In order to develop the rural area of Haveli Taluka of Pune district, Shri Annasaheb Magar, an eminent socialist, educationist in the local area and an MLA strove to open avenues for higher education to the rural folk in Haveli Taluka, along with the primary, secondary and higher education. He commenced Education Revolution along with the Green Revolution in the vicinity.

Sri. Annasaheb Magar started “Arts and Commerce College, Hadapsar” on 15th June 1971 under the guidance of shri. Baburao Gholap, the founder member of the Pune District Education Association (PDEA), with the help of Shri. Mamasaheb Mohol, the first President of the PDEA. In the initial stage, the college was run in Bunter School building with 133 students at Gadital, Hadapsar. In 1977-78, the Junior College was started.

In 1981-82, the college was shifted to its current location at Mahadevnagar. The college was built on five acre land bought from Subhash Farmer’s Cooperative Association. (Subhash Samudaik Shetaki Sahakari Sangh, Mahadevnagar, Hadapsar, Pune). The college was named after Shri. Annasaheb Magar on 20th January, 1984. In 1986, the Science faculty was started and in 1989 Junior Vocational Wing with six subjects and the Computer Science faculty in the senior wing were introduced. Today the college admits around 7000 students every year and runs Ten Programmes and Two Research Centres: BA, B. Com, B. Sc. B. B. A., B. C. A., M. A. in English, Marathi, Hindi, Economics, and Political Science. M. Com., M. Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, Micro-Biology, M. C. S., M. C. A., D.T.L and Two Research Centres in Commerce and Chemistry subjects. The institution has grown extensively with a sprawling infrastructure, with an ICT enabled library with 108,000+ books with Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), with well equipped Laboratories, with a spacious playground, and with a ladies’ hostel.

Pune District Education Association (PDEA), the parent organization of the college was established on 7th September 1941, as a charitable with a motto of 'Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay' meaning, 'Welfare and Happiness for the masses' - the principle PDEA works on.

Great social reformer Late Shri Baburaoji Golap was the founder member of PDEA. Under his able leadership, PDEA was able to open 350 primary school in short period of time. These schools were started all over Pune district of Maharashtra in area where there were no existing schools within the reach.
