Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port Campus is Consisting of two premier maritime institutes of India, the LBS College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research and the Marine Engineering & Research Institute, situated at South Mumbai Haybunder Mumbai. LBS College is the post-sea training institute whereas MERI, Mumbai is pre-sea training institute.
The college was established by the Ministry of Transport, Government of India, in 1948. The Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research is a premier post-sea Maritime Education and Training Institute offering a comprehensive range of courses for Merchant Navy Officers. LBS College is about 1.5 k.m. from the 'Reay Road' Railway station & 2 k.m from 'Sewri' Railway station on the Harbour line of Central Railway. It can be reached by BEST bus Nos. 60, 168 and also by the College bus at routine timings.
The institute is housed in a modern six-storeyed building overlooking the picturesque Mumbai harbour with Butcher & Elephanta islands and hills to the East on a six acre site on the harbour front at Hay Bunder Road, Sewri, Mumbai. Two multi-storeyed hostel blocks to accommodate 400 students and seven-storeyed residential block with 12 faculty quarters are situated in the campus.
Facilities at IMU-MPC (MERI) provide excellent opportunity for those who are inclined to improve their skills in sporting events and games. MERI has regularly participated in inter-collegiate sports meets & have successfully positioned itself as one of the best.
