Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research is the name given by the Government of India in Ministry of human Development and Department of Secondary and higher Education, New Delhi on the advice of the University of Grants commission. This was done as per the Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 Vide Govt. Notification No.f.9-5/2002-U.3 on 31.03.2004. Meenakshi Ammal Dental College located in Maduravoyal, Chennai - 600095 conducted the BDS and MDS courses at the time of conferment of this Deemed University status.

The Meenakshi Ammal Trust was founded in the year 1983 as a Public Charitable and Educational Trust by Mrs. D. Meenakshi Ammal, a noted philanthropist. The aim of the trust is to provided Quaity Education to the poor students by staring various Educational Institutions to spread knowledge, to promote and advance the cause of education and the Indian culture by running Schools, Engineering, Medical, Dental and Paramedical Institutions, Hospitals, Libraries, Hostels and Similar Institutions for the benefit of the public.

Ever since the establishment of the trust it has grown from a humble beginning to the status of an University with an impressive array of Educational Institutions, reputed for its quality of teaching, that is imparted to hundreds of talented and deserving students by an eminent and dedicated teaching faculty.

To emerge as a World - Class University in creating and disseminating knowledge, and providing students a unique learning experience in science, technology, medicine, management and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the world and betterment of mankind.
