Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, was established in 1996 with a divine vision and cherished desire of Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune with the blessings of Hon’ble Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil, Ex-Governor, Bihar and Tripura with an annual intake of 100 seats for MBBS Course. The broader goal of the Institute is to serve the cause of humanity through education and to train and develop young medical students to achieve all round success in medical carrier and to make them able to identify and prioritize health needs and serve the common man of our Country. The College building is a masterpiece of architecture and has all state-of-the-art facilities that are in tune with the best in the world. The College building basks in fine aesthetics and is impressive. It has a mural of Lord Dhanvantari on its facade and the magnificent fiberglass dome can be seen from miles around.
Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune comprising of Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, has been accorded the status of University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, vide Notification No. F. 9-39/2001-U.3 dated 11th January 2003 of the Government of India. It is the first private College in the State of Maharashtra to receive approval of Medical Council of India (M.C.I.) and Government of India for increase in intake capacity of MBBS Course from 100 to 150 students in 2003 and from 150 to 250 in 2012, within the short span of time. Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune received recognition of the Medical Council of India (M.C.I.), for the award of MBBS Degree from its very first batch for 100, 150 and 250 MBBS seats. This is the first Medical College in Maharashtra and third private Medical College in India recognized by MCI for 250 seats.
The College also conducts Postgraduate Degree Courses with annual intake of 171 in 20 subjects viz. General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Opthalmology, ENT (Oto Rhino Laryngology), General Medicine, Paediatrics, Anaesthesiology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis, Respiratory Medicine, Skin & Venereal Diseases, Pathology, Community Medicine, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Emergency Medicine and Superspeciality Courses with an annual intake of 18 in six subjects viz. M. Ch. Neurosurgery, M. Ch. Urology, D.M. Nephrology, M. Ch. Cardio Vascular and Thoracic surgery, D. M. Cardiology and D. M. Neurology. It offers Ph.D. programmes in all subjects and fellowship programmes in few clinical specialities. We are a proud constituent unit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, which is a NAAC re-accredited Vidyapeeth with 3.62 CGPA on four point scale at A Grade in the year 2015 (2nd Cycle) and ISO 9001:2008 certified and ISO 9001-2015 certified Deemed to be University.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre Pune at 18th position all over India and at 1st position (only the Medical College) in Maharashtra by MHRD in 2018. Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune adjudged the best Medical Institutes of India among top 10 Medical Institutes of India in independent survey conducted by Pioneer, North East SUN Medical College ranking. As per the survey conducted by India Today in the year 2017, the College was declared 2nd in India’s Top Medical Colleges with 5 Star Category in consecutive years in 2016 and 2017. This national status is possible because of academic excellence, reputed trained medical faculty, brand reputation in medical profession and world class infrastructure. The College has collaboration with National and International organizations of repute like WHO for clinical multicentric trials, Johns Hopkins University, Harvard USA, Thammasat University, Surindra Rajabhat University, Surin, Thailand, CARE India, Mission Uday Kishore for Adolescent care. Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune has established DPU Unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics. The aim is to build an education system with the highest pedagogic and ethical standards that encourages young catteries of the national to be productive and socially responsible citizens within a caring collaborative learning community. DPU Unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics has been very actively involved in promoting and supporting development Bioethics Curriculum not only for our Institute but also for other Institutes of the Country.
These recognitions and expansions granted by the MCI, UGC, MHRD and Government of India are the results of visionary guidance and whole hearted guidance of Hon’ble Chancellor, Dr. P. D. Patil and Hon’ble Vice Chairperson and Mrs. Bhagyashree P. Patil and the efforts put in by the faculty and the availability of world-class facilities viz. spacious A/c lecture theatres, excellent well-equipped museums and practical laboratories, well-stocked the library with adequate books and journals including E-journals, Internet facility, etc. Besides regular lectures and practicals, the College gives importance to research. Several research proposals of faculty members and students are approved funded by bodies, such as Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), DST and the Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. The College has 2000 bedded well equipped own hospital, backed by a Research Centre. It has 150 Intensive Care beds, 30 futuristic Operating Theatres (Maquet and Dragger) with advanced technology, 80 specialized outpatient consultation suites, 4th generation Da Vinci xi Robot for Robotic Surgery, Twin Cath Lab, 3 CT Scan machines (128 slice, 16 slice and dual slice), 3 MRI machines (0.2, 1.5Tesla and 3Tesla), Digital X-rays, Digital mammography, Ultra-sonography, Colour Doppler, PACS, DSA system, DR System, Sophisticated laboratories, multi organ transplant unit, liver intensive care unit, sophisticated instruments for therapeutics management, etc. Dr. D. Y. Patil Hospital provides special care for the critically ill patients, high quality primary and secondary and tertiary care etc. The hospital has 24 hours blood bank, 24 hours Casualty Medical Services, 24 hours ambulance services, etc. The Nephrology and Neurosurgery department has performed more than 35 successful renal transplants till date. The facilities for angiography, angioplasty, cardio vascular surgery, etc. are available in Department of Cardiology and Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery. The Hospital provides various facilities viz. emergency Medical Service Department with qualified medical staff and all monitoring and diagnostic facilities, 24 x 7 Blood bank with a component facility, Eye bank with eyeball retrieval service round the clock, Yashoda Human Milk Bank, Renal and corneal transplant facilities with Government recognition. The health insurance scheme for BPL patients with Govt. of Maharashtra named Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jeevandai Arogya Yojana since 2012 for needy and poor people are implemented in the College.
