Bangalore BAMS Colleges SDM Institute of Ayurveda, Bangalore, Karnataka, India is a maiden venture of Sri Krishnarajendra Charitable Trust (SKRCT) registered under the Indian Trust Act and established in the year 1989 as a non-profit making organisation whose main objective is to rejuvenate Ayurvedic Education and also to initiate research and development in Ayurvedic Medicine globally.

India is one of the seventh largest country and is among the first ten most developed countries in the world. The country measures 3,214 kms from north to south and 2933 kms from east to west. India's land frontiers are approximately 15,200 kms and its coastline is about 7,516 kms including Andaman and Nicobar islands and Lakshadweep region. India's northern boundary is democrated by the Himalayas. India's immediate neighbors are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The founder of this institute is Mr. L K Raju. Ramakrishna Hegde, former Union Minister of Finance, is the Chairman of this institute.

The institute has a steam chamber, lab facilities, x-ray unit, an operation theatre, a well stocked library and computer centre in the Institute. There are various options for the students after completing the course. They can join central and state government services or set up their own ayurvedic clinic. The students of this college actively participate in various national and international seminars on ayurveda. They conduct rural health camps and child health care programs at various villages of Karnataka.

The institute also has a research centre where various types of ayurvedic medicines are prepared under the supervision of experts. The Institute included an out-patient department and 100-bed Hospital for the practical training of students. We have treated many chronic cases such as coronary heart problems, diabetes, skin disorders, allergies, psoriasis, gangrene, sinus and the like," says the principal Dr. Muralidhara. It has the following departments: Surgery, ENT, Diabetes, Pediatrics, Laboratory and Toxicology. They also provide snakebite treatment and well known leech treatment.

During the academic year, Library is open from Monday to Saturday. Library material is readily accessible to all students, faculty and other doctors of the Institution.
In addition to main collection, library maintains subscription to various journals, a reference collection, audio visual collection that include audio tapes on Yoga, Ayurveda and CDROMS on medicine, Ayurveda, yoga and herbal drugs and video cassettes on presentation of rare cases by various prominent practitioners presented at many seminars. The library is computerized and connected to Internet to browse latest information on medicine.
