Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth came into existence in the year 1921 and the university was established according to the directions of Mahatma Gandhi as an educational memory of Sri. Lokmanya Tilak, who was a great thinker and leader of freedom struggle. Right from its inception, the university has catered to the changing requirements of the society without compromising on quality and its basic objectives.
It was awarded the status of deemed university in the year 1987, even though it began its journey as an educational institution. The deemed university status was awarded as a recognition towards the contributions made by the university to the fields of social sciences, ayurveda and Sanskrit. All courses offered by the institution are designed for making the students more practical-oriented in such a way that they can face the challenges of life with confidence.
The Central Library for all the courses of the Vidyapeeth possesses a sizeable collection of books and non-book reading material in Social Sciences, Sanskrit Literature, Philosophy, Religion, Indology, Ayurveda, Computer Science, Education, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Management and Law. We have separate hostel accommodation facilities for boys and girls in the Vidyapeeth premises at Mukundnagar. We have a capacity of 48 students in boys hostel and 96 students in girls hostel. The rooms are on twin sharing or triple sharing basis for girls hostel and single, twin and triple sharing basis for boys hostel. All rooms are provided with amenities like bed, cupboard, table, chair, fans and ample lighting. Running hot and cold water is provided in the bathrooms. TV room and indoor recreations are provided separately for boys and girls. 24 hours doctor on call is available. Security in the premises is assured by guards on duty for 24 hours. A residential warden takes care of daily affaires of the boys and girls hostel. A canteen facility is available in premises supplying all the meals during the day at a reasonable rate.
